An Apprenticeship Success Story: Meet hi-impact’s Jamie Gray
We recently had a chat with one of our technicians and former apprentice, Jamie Gray, where he discussed his background, how he got started, his role at hi-impact, and where he sees himself in the future. Take a look below to see what he had to say.
So, Jamie. First of all, where are you from?
“I am from Upton, on the Wirral.”
What school/college did you go to?
“I went to St Anselm’s.”
When did you discover you had an interest in Tech?
“When I was in Primary School, I was always the one who helped the teacher fix the Interactive Whiteboard. So you could say I have been doing this job for over 15 years.”
What specifically about the apprenticeship program at hi-impact attracted you over other options?
“My Mum and Aunt worked in two different hi-impact schools and told me how good the technicians were. When I researched the business and saw how much they do for the schools, I knew that it was the company I wanted to work for.”
What’s it like to work at hi-impact?
“Working at hi-impact is busy, fun and no day is ever the same. One day I could be setting up a server for a new school and the next I could be in a lesson helping the teacher use VR headsets.”
How have hi-impact changed or evolved since you joined the team?
“I joined on the day we moved into this office. Since then we have taken over around 20 Wirral schools and employed so many staff, I have lost count!”
What do you feel you’ve gained since working here?
“I have gained so much experience in all different aspects of IT but especially in Cyber-security. I have also gained an understanding of how to work with clients, how to prioritise jobs by urgency, and improve my time management.”
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
“I see myself still working for hi-impact as a Senior Technician.”
Jamie is one of our favourite success stories here at, hi-impact, not just because he’s an excellent technician who proudly represents us everyday, but also because he is one our beneficiaries of the hi-impact apprenticeship programme.
Having joined the team at 18, Jamie quickly established himself as a bright spark in a promising, ever-expanding group of passionate and talented technicians; displaying an immense aptitude for technical work, and an insatiable desire to learn more.
Now 21, Jamie now possesses more knowledge and experience than ever, and we can’t wait to see how he continues to progress on his journey.
